Benefits of vibhuti & rudraksh

Benefits of vibhuti & rudrakshNamaste all,

Applying vibhuti in different points of the body can bring positive
energy. Rudraksh comes in varieties, each for a different purpose,
says Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Vibhuti is a tool to enhance receptivity. When applied at different
points of the body, especially points of higher receptivity, one
receives positive energy.

Vibhuti is always taken with the ring finger
as that is the most sacred part of the body. Apply Vibuthi to the
following places for maximum benefit:
Agna Chakra: Between the eyebrows to receive life as knowledge or
wisdom
Vishuddhi Chakra: Pit of the throat to enhance power
Anahata Chakra: Center of chest, where the ribcage meets to receive
life as love
Just behind the earlobe is a solid bone which runs into a crevice.
If one follows that crevice one can find a dimple where a little
Vibhuti can be applied
Men can apply a little bit of Vibhuti on their right big toe, while
women should apply it on their left big toe

Another powerful tool to
enhance one’s well-being is Rudraksh, the seed of a tree that
primarily grows in the mountains. Rudraksh has a very unique vibration
about itself and is worn for different purposes Rudraksh cleanses a
certain amount of the aura. It can vary from pitch-black to pure
white, depending on the person’s physical and mental health. The aura
is the reflection of who one really is. If one goes to a new place
where the vibrations are completely different, the body may not be
able to settle down.

Wearing Rudraksh cocoons one in one’s own
energies, preventing external energies from disturbing. There are a
variety of Rudraksh available, each for a different purpose. Ekamukhi
or single-faced Rudraksh is for power. However, it is not advisable to
wear it without proper guidance. Dwimukhi or twofaced is for wealth,
while Panchamukhi or five-faced is for well-being. Panchamukhi can be
worn by everyone, irrespective of age or gender. Apart from improving
general well-being, it also reduces blood pressure and keeps the body
calm and alert. Shanmukhi or six-faced Rudraksh is good for children
as it attracts motherly love.

3 Mukhi Rudraksha as referenced in books of knowledge

3 Mukhi Rudraksha as referenced in books of knowledge

3 Mukhi Rudraksha Bead is Known to be one of the most powerful Rudraksha for stopping all problems created in the past and existing in the present moment and about to take place in the Future. This Rudraksha Bead combined with appropriate Mantras helps to dramatically change a persons life for the better in the 40 days it takes to complete an initial Mantra Discipline. The 3 Mukhi Rudraksha Bead is a life saver.

Quoting the following from the information referenced in the Highly Auspicious Book titled RUDRAKSA – Properties and Biomedical Implications by Mr. Subas Rai.

In the SIVA PURANA Vidyesvara Samhita Translated by Shastri 1973

Suta said

Rudraksa is a favorite bead of Siva. It is highly sanctifying. It removes all sins by sight, contact and japas

SIVA said

If a man is not liberated after Meditation and acquisition of Knowledge, he shall wear Rudraksha. He shall be freed from all sins and attain the highest goal. A Rudraksha of 3 Faces always bestows means of enjoyment. As a result of its power all lores become firmly established.

O daughter of king of mountains thus I have explained to you the different types of Rudraksas based on the number of faces. Please listen to the mantras with devotion

Klim…Obessiance…3 Faced Rudraksha Bead

In the PADMA PURANA Chapter 57 Translated by Bhatta 1989

THE LORD Said

The one with three mouths is Fire Himself; the sin earned in the past births of him on whom it remains is burnt as fire burns fuel. A wise man obtains that fruit which is obtained by worshipping Fire or by rites of honoring Fire or by offering the oblation of ghee; and also obtains heaven. He who wears a Rudraksa of three mouths on his body is like Brahma on the earth. It would burn all the sins due to wicked deeds collected in birth after birth. There would be not disease in his belly; he would not be sick. He is never defeated, and his house is not burnt by fire. These and all other fruits are obtained and destructive weapons also are warded off. Nothing inauspicious happens due to wearing of Rudraksa of three mouths i.e. when a Rudraksa of three mouths is worn on one’s person.

In the RUDRAKSAJABALOPANISAD

KALAGNI RUDRA replied

The one with three faces is Fire Himself, which on wearing pleases all the three Fire deities.

In the Introduction Section of the Book RUDRAKSA Planetary Correlations and Astrological Implications of Rudraksa are detailed as follows -:

Three Mukhi

Its ruling planet is Mars, which astrologically represents fire. This planet governs blood, head, neck, ears, testis, bone marrow, genital organs, kidney, red blood corpuscles ( RBC ) Vitamin K. This mukhi is supposed to cure diseases such as, blood defect, plague, small pox, blood pressure, weakness, bone fracture, disturbed menstrual cycle, spontaneous abortion, ulcer, wounds, etc. caused by the malefic effects of Mars.

In the Book Gems and Rudraksha by Mr. Anil Gupta he describes the Values and Merits of the 3 Mukhi Rudraksha Bead as follows

Three Faced Rudraksha has three natural lines. Its ruling planet is Mars and it is the symbol of god Agni ( fire ). The Agni ( fire ) purifies every thing in the same way, the wearer of 3 Faced Rudraksha gets rid of the sins that he had done in his past life and returns to the purely true life. It is the best for those who have fallen prey to inferiority complex or fear stricken and suffer from self hatred or mental strain.

In a short time after wearing it, the wearer feels its influence by attaining success in his efforts, favorable means, learning and knowledge. Its another best virtue is that it makes the wearer free from chronic fever certainly. Modern physicists and allopathic doctors accept that the patient of the fever that comes after every 3 days, is cured.

It contains the Trinity of gods Brahma and Vishnu and Mahesh and the trinity of Gunaas Sattva and Rajas and Tamas and the three spheres The Sky The Earth and The Paatal with their divine powers. For its divine powers this bead is the most sacred and powerful and the best.

Rudraksha in Ayurvedic medicine

Rudraksha in Ayurvedic medicine

Rudraksh is a tree distributed in different parts of India. Its hard tubercled nuts are made into rosaries and bracelets and are also used in making necklaces and buttons. There is considerable demand for the beads in India. Owing to limited occurrence of the species in the country, commercial supplies of these beads are not available form indigenous sources and the bulk of the requirement is met by imports from Nepal, Malaya and Indonesia. The rosaries are sold in India mostly at places of pilgrimage. As Rudraksh herb thrives in warm localities with a high and well-distributed rainfall, having good drainage. For the natives and traditional healers of Chhattisgarh, Rudraksh is not a new herb. They are aware of the nuts since time immemorial. In different forests of Chhattisgarh many Elaeocarpus species have been reported. Seeing its demand, now many innovative herb growers have started its plantation in Chhattisgarh. They are getting positive results from initial trials. The traditional healers of Chhattisgarh suggest the natives to wear the necklaces of Rudraksh in order to protect themselves from evil spirits. But as it is costly and beyond rich of common natives, this use is not much popular. In the name of Rudraksh, adulteration of inferior species is common. The healers informed me that they have other promising and cheap substitute to Rudraksh necklaces.

I have given such details in my previous articles. The traditional healers are not much aware of its other medicinal properties and uses. During my ethnobotanical surveys in Chhattisgarh plains, I have observed its use in treatment of common fever. The healers rub the Rudraksh seed with Shahad (Honey) and give it to patients internally. It is promising remedy in hyper pyrexia. I am giving the details of its botany and reported medicinal uses, I have noted form the reference literatures. Botanically, Rudraksh (E. Sphaericus syn. E. ganitrus) is a medium sized evergreen tree with a spreading hand some crown leaves simple, oblong-lanceolate, sub-entire or irregularly crenate, decurrent into the petiole, glabrous, acute or acuminate; Flowers white in dense racemes in old leaf axills; Fruits globose or some what obovoid purple drupes, stone tubercled, longitudinally groved, generally 5- celled and 5 – seeded. Rarely seven – celled. The religious natives consider it lucky. According to Ayurveda, fruits are sour, appetiser, sedative and useful in treatment of cough, bronchitis, nerve pain, epilepsy, migraine etc. It is also considered beneficial in treatment of hypertension. Its use in treatment of high fever is not reported in these literatures. I am proud to write that the traditional healers of Chhattisgarh are using it for this purpose. I am trying to find out the fact that how these healers have discovered this promising use. After successful trials of Rudraksh plantation in Chhattisgarh, we will try to establish it as potential medicinal crop. Through the on-going surveys I am trying to gather more information on its traditional uses in Chhattisgarh

Thank you very much for reading the article.

Rudraksha recommended for various physical mental problems

Rudraksha recommended for various physical mental problems

The ancient rudraksha beads are now gaining importance in the present era as the healing properties of rudraksha are being identified and recommended by rudraksha therapists for various physical and mental problems. Rudraksha beads (botanical name: Eleao Carpus Granitrus) are the dried fruits of the rudraksha tree mainly found in Java and Sumatra, Assam, Himalayan region, Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan.

Talking to this, Pune based Dr. Madhuri Mahadevan, a clairvoyant and a feng shui consultant who is also a rudraksha therapist says, “For thousands of years the merits and powers of the rudraksha beads have been documented and detailed in the holy puranas and Upanishads.”

According to Dr. Madhuri wearing the sacred rudraksha beads brings one to the alpha state of present moment living. “The ancient discipline of Rudraksha recommendation is as simple as it is complicated,” Dr. Madhuri points out. She further states today there are many rudraksha therapy facilities in India that recommend rudraksha beads by combining ancient Vedic Knowledge with modern scientific proof and confirmed experiences continually proving the effectiveness of wearing rudraksha beads.

Stressing on the scientific aspect of the Beads she firmly puts modern science has shown that the electromagnetic nature of rudraksha beads affect our neurophysiology in a specific manner that allows control of heart beat, blood pressure, stress levels, hypertension and at the same time relieves anxiety, depression and neurotic conditions.

Anti aging properties have also been discovered, based on the natural electromagnetism of rudraksha beads. She calls rudraksha as a natures gift to mankind and a panacea for all illnesses coming in the category of using herbs and plants for counteracting not only the evil effects of planets but all at clinical level for illnesses such as hypertension, cancer and AIDS amongst others.

As a rudraksha therapist and a clairvoyant Dr. Madhuri have also suggested the usage of rudraksha beads to her several clients suffering from cancer and AIDS. Says she, “I recommend the usage of rudraksha beads, externally by wearing it and internally by drinking milk of rudraksha beads boiled in it.” She adds these Beads tremendously help as a supportive therapy and nullifies all the side effects of the medication and speed up the effect of the medication. The wearing of Beads also gives strength to the patient to cope with the medication.

However, Dr. Madhuri stresses on the need of more scientific research and analysis to be carried out to understand its benefits in the field of health and medicine for the benefit of a mankind.

What is Rudra Yaga and How Can It Help The World

What is Rudra Yaga and How Can It Help The World

Rudra normally refers to Lord Shiva who according to popular belief is the God of Destruction. In the Vedic Tradition however Rudra has another meaning as Rudra is the Divine Being whose eyes are filled with tears of compassion. When Rudra sees people suffering these tears spontaneously drop from his eyes and manifest in the form of the Scriptures which embody the techniques for overcoming pain and misery. Those same tears also manifest in the form of Saints and Sages and Herbs and the Healing Sciences. That is why not only the Scriptures but also the Science of Ayurveda, Physicians, Saints, Sages and Herbs are said to be living forms of Rudra.

Eight different aspects of nature are the direct manifestations of Rudra and they are Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, The Sun, The Moon and the Life Giving Force. Gaining Knowledge of Rudra and cultivating proper respect for all of his manifestations and serving Rudra by serving these manifestations is called Rudra Yaga. Anything Good and Auspicious and anything that keeps us Healthy and Happy and anything that helps us attain freedom from pain and misery is Rudra and worshipping that Rudra is called Rudra Yaga.

Here worship does not mean just performing rituals or participating in some sort of ceremony., In Sanskrit Yaga means ” to give, to serve, to contribute, to share, to sacrifice, to become part of ” . Therefore Rudra Yaga means that you contribute to the well being of nature that is the direct manifestation of Rudra. By serving natures forces you serve yourself and you serve creation and you serve the creator. This requires self sacrifice and that is why Rudra Yaga and other highly evolved practices are called “Sacrifices ” .

Why do we use Rudraksha during worship

Why do we use Rudraksha during worship

Rudraksha beads are strung into strands and worn on the body. These malas are also used in the practice of japa.

Rudraksha names both a sacred seed and the tree that bears it. In English, it is called the Blue Marble tree, or, less commonly, the Utrasum bead tree. It is known botanically by the names Elaeocarpus sphaericus, E. grandis and E. ganitrus.

All legends of the origin of Rudraksha describe them as the tears shed by Lord Siva for the benefit of humanity. “Rudra” stems from the Sanskrit rud or rodana, which means “to cry.” It is the original name for Siva as it appears in the Rig Veda. Aksha means “eye,” and thus Rudraksha beads are deemed the tears of Siva.

Naveen Patnaik briefly tells the tale in The Garden of Life, “Rudra wept when He witnessed the towering metropolis, Tripura, or triple city, created by man’s superbly ambitious technology. In its arrogance, this magnificent human creation had undermined the balance between the Earth, atmosphere and sky. Then, according to the Mahabharata, having shed the implacable tear which turned into a Rudraksha bead, ‘The Lord of the Universe drew his bow and unleashed his arrows at the triple city, burning its demons and hurling them into the western ocean, for the welfare of creation.’ ” Wearing the Rudraksha, devotees remind themselves of God’s compassion for the human predicament, His watchful love for us all.

The Importance of Wearing Wrist Malas

The Importance of Wearing Wrist Malas

The rudraksha neck mala is highly important for gaining the blessings of Lord Shiva and aiding the neurophysiology of the body. However the wrist should take precedence when one is specifically seeking Moksa or “Liberation”. In the “Srimad Devi Bhagavatam”, 11th Skand, Chapter IV, Parts 1 to 21, there is a sequence of wearing mentioned that includes wearing the holy rudraksha on the wrist specifically to gain Moksa. The sequence is as follows:

“If anybody holds Rudraksam on his head he gets Koti times the fruit. On his ears ten Koti times the fruit. On his neck one hundred Koti times the fruit. On his holy thread ayuta times the fruit. On his arm one Lakh Koti times the fruit. And if one wears Rudraksam on one’s wrist one attains Moksa. Whenever Acts mentioned in the Vedas be performed with Rudraksam the fruits obtained are unbounded.”

Interpretation of the above paragraph would lead one to believe that the most important part where rudraksa is worn, is around the wrist for attaining Moksa. One step further would be to hold rudraksa in the hand during meditation or Puja rituals. The hands and fingers hold great importance specific to Chakra points and Nyasa which are processes of empowerment to the body during meditation or Puja. Chapter IV, Part 37 of the Srimad Devi Bhagavatam mentions: “A rosary of 26 beads, 50 beads, 16 beads and 12 beads should be worn respectively on head, chest, arms and wrists.” Wearing 12 beads of choice is best for the wrist mala.

Recognizing Rudraksha

Recognizing Rudraksa

It is an easy matter to recognize authentic Rudraksa by its Facets or Faces or Mukhis. Here the descriptive words describing the Mukhis are interpreted to mean the deep lines from the lower part to the upper part of the Rudraksa Bead. Authentic Rudraksa can easily be recognized by looking at these deep lines or Mukhis and also by observing the exterior surfaces of the different Mukhi Beads. The different Mukhi Beads have distinctly different growth patterns of the thorny surface protrusions.

Rudraksa have many sizes and shapes to include round, elongated, semi circular, convex and flat. The smallest Rudraksa has the size equal to the black pepper and then larger to the size of garden peas and then the size of Amla Fruit. There are also extra large Collector Grade Rudraksa. Beads from Nepal are large, round with deep and well defined faces and have a natural hole and are much sought after . Others found commonly in Srilanka and South of India are flat and convex and holes have to be drilled in them. Indonesian beads are tiny in size with not so deep and defined mukhs on them.

In modern scientific studies specific to electromagnetic properties the larger Rudraksa were found to show maximum inductance and capacitance as compared to the smaller ones. This information verifies the Vedic Knowledge regarding why Rudraksa of larger size have been praised in the Puranas. To confirm this again it is also normal to see pictures of the Gurus and Saints in India who are wearing Malas of the larger Rudraksa.

Due to the increasing importance and price of Rudraksa it is also made artificially and these artificial Rudraksa continue to be sold in limited quantities in the marketplace.

One of the most common artificial Rudraksa sold are the 1 Mukhi Round that is actually a 3,4 or 5 Mukhi Round Bead with all lines except one filled in with glue and powdered Rudraksa from another bead. When floated in hot water the glue softens exposing the Bead. Also seeds from trees having fruits similar in look to Rudraksha are sold with one line carved on them. They can only be recognized by their look, feel , weight and smell by experienced people. The artificial 1 Mukhi Rounds normally sell in the area of US $500.00 and more. Investigations by Rudra Centre has revealed that round 1 mukhi has not been produced by any tree of Nepal till date , which only shows that all these sold are fake without needing much further investigation.

Balls made of synthetic material are also carved with 21 to 27 lines and are beautiful collector items. Examples of these are found in our fake bead section and they are really beautiful works of art for the collector. The lines carved on these beads are normally shallow and the surface of the Bead does not normally have the deep contours of the real Rudraksa Beads.

In the general market place there is said to be other criteria to recognize authentic Rudraksa such as sinking and floating of Rudraksa in water and spinning between two coins. These are not correct criteria. Rudraksa Beads are simply recognized as a natural authentic Bead by inspecting the Mukhis and different thorny surfaces and then purchasing according to the quality desired

Generally the 5 Mukhi Rudraksa are found easily. Rudraksa having 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 Mukhis are found in less quantity and their price is generally more than the 5 Mukhi Rudraksa. Prices are established according to rarity in the market place and are also determined by the quality of production of any one year. Production is represented by about 20% highest quality and 60% average quality. It needs to be mentioned that there are at least two grades of Rudraksa that can be purchased

The price paid for Rudraksa does not affect its religious or spiritual or medicinal importance or value. Retail prices range widely depending on where Rudraksa are purchased. There is no link or connection with the price of Rudraksa or the buying and selling of Rudraksa and its religious and spiritual and medicinal effectiveness and importance. What is most important is that the Rudraksa be authentic and of high quality.

Rudraksha A Therapeutic Approach

Rudraksha A Therapeutic Approach

Large genus (Elaeocarpus. Linn.) of trees belonging to the family Eleocarpaceae distributed from South and East Asia through Malaysia to Australia and Pacific Islands. About 25 species occur in India. This medium sized tree also occurs in Nepal, Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. But the author has noticed its presence in the Nicobars, especially in Great Nicobar Island. Morphologically, leaves are oblong-lanceolate, subentire, nearly glabrous. Flowers are white in dense racemes, arising mostly from old leaf aisles. Drupe, deep or Bluish purple, globose or obovoid (0.5 – 1.0 in diameter) enclosing a hard, longitudinally grooved, tubercled normally five-celled stone. In which five seeds are embedded.

The stones are cleaned and polished, some times stained and used as beads for rosaries, bracelets and other ornamental objects. They are frequently set in gold and stones with fewer or more than five cells, fetching high prices. Rudraksha beads have mukhas or ‘faces’ that differ in number and this is what distinguishes them from each other. Almost all beads are five-faced, with a very small percentage being more or less. The therapeutic and spiritual attributes of Rudraksha beads is dependent on the number of ‘faces’ it exhibits. Beads having a single face to about twenty one faces have been found. The Rudraksha treasured by the followers of the God of the hindu trinity, Siva the Destroyer. According to the Siva Purana, It is impossible to describe adequately, the benefits of wearing a Rudraksha even in a 100 years. In Ayurveda, Rudraksha is useful in the treatment of high blood pressure, allergies, neurological diseases, asthma, diabetes, cancer and many other Raktavaha Srotadhikara (blood circulatory disorders) and Manas Rogas (mental disorders), due to its Guru (heaviness), Snigdha Guna (greasy nature) Madhura Rasa, Madhura Vapaka and Sita Virya (cooling properties) and Vata Pitta samaka pharmacodynamic action. On the basis of above mentioned pharmacodynamic properties and actions the significance of various types of beads of Rudraksha. (Actually it is a phalasthi (fruit) which is the used part of this tree) can be considered as follows. External use-External therapeutic uses of Rudraksha can be performed by Darsana (By looking like tratak in Yoga) and Sparsana (By wearing, and pressing the beads).

The application of lepa of Pancha mukhi beads leads to pacification of Pitta or Dahasamana as like as chandana and apply on Masurika eruption. – Wearing of Eka Mukhi (one faced) beads fulfils desire. – Wearing of Dwi Mukhi (Two faced) ensures control of desires. – Rubbing of Tri Mukhi (three faced) in milk and applied to the eye in eye ailments. – Wearing of Chatur Mukhi (four faced) can increase grasping power and intelligence. – Wearing of Pancha Mukhi (five faced) increases mental peace, normalizes blood circulation. This type is also used as an ornament. – Wearing of Shasta Mukhi (six faced) beads increases memory retention. -Wearing of Sapta Mukhi (seven faced) increases will power. -Wearing of Ashta Mukhi (Eight faced) beads increases concentration, develops knowledge and removes obstacles in proposed plans and works. – Wearing of Dasa Mukhi (Ten faced) useful in spiritual enlightenment and reduces mental stress and strain. Rudraksha is also known as Bhuta Nasana (literally, destroying ghosts) due to its action in relieving mental disorders. Wearing the Rudraksha benefits in various ways depending upon the number of faces. On the basis of pharmacological experiements by experts, it has been proven that Rudraksha is beneficial in the treatment of neurological and mental disorders. It has been found that, smaller or medium sized Rudraksha are most effective for wearing and japam. Moreover, when in japam (meditation with chanting) using the rudraksa mala keeping the beads a little pressed develops a pressure in the thumb and middle finger, improving blood circulation in the eye and brain (Acupressure Theory). They can be worn on the wrist, forearms, neck, chest, head, forehead, earlobes and around the midrib. A Rudraksha mala can be made of 108, 54, 36, 27 or 18 beads. But one must use only the strong, well formed and grooved Rudraksha.

The natural central holed ones are the best. Internal use of Rudraksha Apart from the external uses, Rudraksha is also administered in powdered form in dosage of 3-5 gm or mixed with other Ayurvedic herbs. The internal administration improves their effectiveness and shortens the treatment period. The systemic action of Rudraksha is as follows:- It acts as an anticonvulsant and analgesic on the nervous system. The six-faced beads are particularly effective in the treatment of epilepsy and hysteria, whereas the ten-faced beads are used in reducing mental stress and strain. It is hepatotonic on the gastrointestinal system and is useful in the treatment of jaundice and other hepatic disorders. Three faced beads are useful in curing indigestion. Three faced and five faced beads are effective in the treatment of circulatory system disorders like hypertension. It affects the respiratory system by acting as a bronchodilator and is useful in the treatment of dynsnoea. Three-faced beads are effective in the treatment of asthma, whereas ten-faced beads controls whopping cough. Nine-faced beads are effective in the treatment of urino-genital disorders, and aid in the prevention of miscarriages. Moreover, these beads are also useful in lowering the body temperature and act as an antipyretic agent during fever. Three-faced beads are effective in treating malaria. Ten-faced beads are effective in treating temperature regulation related disorders. Four-faced Rudraksha beads are effective in treating skin disorders. Form of Uses The Rudraksha beads are taken orally and externally in the form of Him (frozen), Kvatham, Milk, Bhasma (ash), Vibhuti, Tailam (oil), Kalkam, Mandap, Kirtanan, Mala etc. Precautions 1. To maintain its potency Rudraksha beads must be kept off the ground and wrapped in wool or silk when not in use. Cleaning the beads with sandal wood oil once a month is also recommended. 2.

The bigger Rudrakshas are the best for both medicinal purposes and worshipping whereas for wearing and japam, smaller sized Rudraksha are more potent. 3. Only the strong, well formed and grooved Rudrakshas are recommended. The natural, central holed ones are the most effective. 4. It is found that Rudraksha must be used for more than 40 days, to achieve the desired results. 5. Before using Rudraksha, one must test its genuineness by the following ways: – The central hole of the rudraksa should be natural – When an original Rudraksha is kept between two clean copper coins, it will move slightly due to the magnetic effect – When a Rudraksha is kept in water, a little heat is discharged after a few hours and the color of water changes – Rudraksha sinks when put in water. As a Rudraksha ages, it loses weight. Only a genuine Rudraksha must be selected as it has great medicinal and spiritual attributes. It is recommended for physical and mental ailments. To verify this recommendation in scientific explanation it is felt by the author to research on evaluation of Rudraksha. References : The wealth of India, Raw Materials, Vol. III, D.E.
